We have an inhouse Engineering Department which works closely with our Business Development Team, taking a key role in identifying opportunities for product development to address the challenges our clients face on site.

Our Business Development Team actively identifies product development opportunities based on on-site challenges reported by our Clients. We often partner with these Clients to turn complex challenges into market-ready solutions.
It begins with understanding the problem our client is facing. From there, we scope out the solution, develop initial concepts, and provide detailed calculations to ensure suitability. We then manufacture a prototype and set up rigorous testing—often exceeding expected working limits—to validate the design. A report is shared for client review and feedback, with design revisions made as needed.
Our goal is to develop reliable, saleable products—often investing in the design phase ourselves—so we can deliver long-term value for the entire industry through bringing proven, Australian-made innovations to market.

Whether we’re working from client-supplied drawings or developing a new concept, our in-house engineering team collaborates closely with Clients to ensure designs are not only fit for purpose but optimised for efficient, cost-effective manufacture.
From early-stage concept development and material selection to detailed design reviews and functional prototyping, we focus on improving performance, reliability, and production efficiency. With full manufacturing capabilities under one roof, we ensure a seamless transition from design to finished product—reducing lead times, minimising rework, and delivering consistent quality.
Sharpe® works closely with clients to align with project timelines and budgets, ensuring projects stay on time while keeping costs down. Through close collaboration we report on key milestones to support smoother operations, improving performance, and minimising downtime or delays on larger projects where our component forms just one part of a broader scope.
For clients who have an existing product, damaged or legacy part, our engineering team can work back from those original components to provide a design in order to remanufacture the component. We can reverse-engineer and remanufacture critical components, including downhole tools and tubing string elements, enabling locally-made supply, shorter lead times, and design improvements.
Sharpe® can conduct failure analysis on client-supplied products, identifying weak points in existing designs to recommend improvements that enhance reliability, improve performance or extend product life.
Sharpe® offers comprehensive prototyping services to validate and refine designs before full-scale production. Our team can produce functional prototypes through 3D printing or in-house machining, tested and validated to working limits, to ensure the product or component meets performance and reliability standards.
Testing capabilities include up to:
- 800 tonne Compression & Tensile Testing
- 100,000 ft-lbs Torque Testing
- 30,000 psi Pressure Testing
FEA allows us to simulate stress, fatigue, and force distribution on a product or component before it is manufactured. This software-simulation complements our manual engineering calculations and checks, allowing us to see concentrations of high stress areas on a product during the design stage to validate the drawing and review the design process again. Validation testing in this way eliminates risk or error, reducing the time to market.
Final engineering compliance certificates and test reports are regularly supplied with final manufactured products. For more complex products Sharpe® develop highly detailed operation manuals in line with industry and safety standards.
Our MRP-based ERP system allows us to maintain part records linking all drawings and design data, manufacturing methods, and product order history. Through a single serial number, we have full traceability allowing Sharpe® to instantly access product specifications and manufacturing details—enabling forward planning for raw materials, and rapid remanufacture or modification, ultimately reducing lead times for our Clients.
